Project Description
The project was about the otherwise forgotten people of WW1. To start the project off we read a novel called “All Quiet On The Western Front”. Students then picked and researched countries of their choice. Exploring how they were involved in WW1. We then learned about the different forms and meters of poetry, in order for us to write a poem. The poems were written based on research we had previously finished. To finish our project off we created a book to display everyone's hard work, and had a book launch party to share this with the community.

Book Launch Role:In order for the class to show what hard work we had been doing the past months, we decided to create a book, and book launch party. The book and book launch party was all in the hands of students, meaning we would get no help from our teacher. I decided, because of my previous knowledge in publishing a book, and being apart of yearbook, I would be the most helpful in the publishing team. In this part of the project I worked hard communicating with students so we could get the book put together by deadline. This included tracking down students from the other class to collect their work, and talking to the copy editors so we had the work in the right format for the book. I then took the task of formatting the front and back of the book in order for it to look pleasing to the eye, and professional.

Project Reflection:
Through this project there was a lot of produced work and accomplished tasks. It started with the research; reading articles, watching videos, and going to parts of the internet that I had not known existed. We then organized our very own book launch that showed some of the wonderful presentations that were made. There was also the fundraising that made it possible to create the book. Included in all this was everything in the middle; poems, essays, presentations. The biggest accomplishment in this project was finishing all the presentations. We saw that all the hard work we had done for the past months was now linked together. This project showed a story; not through the eyes of one person, but through the eyes of the whole world.
There were a lot of achievements throughout this project. I think the biggest thing that I helped achieve was a beautifully made book; that hopefully will inspire other students or people that come across this work. I know this was an achievement because when we told people high school sophomores created the book they were in disbelief. Over all this project was a huge accomplishment for me. I had not known how much I didn't know about WW1. Having our class link all of the smaller events together I can see the bigger picture, and how extraordinary this event was.
The moment I will remember is after the presentations. I finally realized why we did all this work. I could connected all the events and it made a story. It was a unique opportunity that most other schools would not have. I understand that WW1 wasn't just the French and Germans fighting against each other like we have been taught in textbooks, but it was much more than that.
The biggest lesson I have learned through this project was to ask for help earlier than latter. When I first finished the research I realized that I was not where I wanted to be. It was too late to ask for the help I needed with the research. When we were working on our poems and I started getting the same feeling, and didn't like how my poems were turning out. I asked for help. Stephen told me how I could better understand the task, and approached the writing in a different way. Over all I was much more pleased with how my poem came out after I got the help I needed.
Throughout this project I have learned a lot of transferable skills. The most helpful one would be setting my priorities. This was probably the most important for me to learn because I have always struggled with my time management. I always have to much on my plate and never know what to dive into first. Another really crucial step for me is gathering information. I have realized that gathering documents from other people is not as easy as sending an email or asking. That is why it is important to have this skill in life. Over all I have learned a lot in this project not only about WW1 but about a lot of other skills that will help me in my future.
